My first contribution to Plone Collective is Plodcasting, a Plone based Podcasting tool that will allow people who use Plone to perform a basic kind of audio-blogging. It’s still quite rough around the edges, but it works… mostly.
My favourite part of the product is my hacked version of portal_url (a.k.a. the URL tool), this is capable of generating Coral Cache URLs for any object in the system. The immediate benefit of this is that Plodcasters can use the Coral distributed cache network to do all the heavy-lifting of media files. This can somewhat reduce the cost of bandwidth for a popular audio file.
I demonstrated the initial release of Plodcasting to Resonance FM last week. They seemed quite impressed with it, and want to have a go at deploying it if the DTI renews their broadcasting license.
